Mildred Gant Stites Reed
(died 1967)

The University of North Carolina Herbarium has catalogued about 2 dozen specimens collected by Mildred Gant Stites Reed. All were collected between 1933 and 1935, and most were co-collected with her spouse, John Frederick Reed. Most specimens in the NCU collection came as a gift from the Jesup Herbarium of Dartmouth College in 2002.

Mildred Stites Reed earned a masters thesis from Duke University in 1935. Her advisor was Dr. H. L. Blomquist, and her thesis was entitled “A taxonomic and floristic study of the genus Cyperus in North America.”

Mildred Stites Reed died in 1967, and was survived by spouse John F. Reed and sons John, Robert, and James.
